Consider a New scheme of Fellowship to Attract foreign students in IIT
A new scheme of fellowship is being considered to lure foreign students in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Under this, talented foreign students will be invited to study at IIT by giving fellowship. The IIT Council has decided in this regard. Preparations are underway for its implementation. IITs are keen to admit foreign students to their institutions. Three years ago the IIT Council took a decision in this regard and started implementing it, but the last three years data shows that every year only four-six students are getting admission in IITs. While ten percent seats were reserved for foreign students.
There are more than 11 thousand seats in 23 IITs in the country. Thus, 1100 seats are reserved for foreign students, but foreign students are not available. Foreign students are allowed to appear directly in the JEE Advanced Examination, but the results so far indicate that foreign students are not taking much interest in it.
According to the sources of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, to bring the IITs to global rankings, it is necessary to have foreign students, but the current process is not attracting students.
Through fellowship, he can be given another opportunity to study in IIT. In fact, the fees for foreign students in IITs were kept as per the cost, which was getting very high. This can also be a reason, but through fellowship, eligible students can get admission at very low cost.
IIT sources said that the decision was taken in the last meeting of the council regarding the fellowship, but now the necessary process is being completed to implement it. Through this fellowship, there are plans to lure students of Indian origin settled in neighboring or other countries.
