About English and Foreign Languages University:

The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, was initially called as Central Institute of English (CIE) and founded as a vision of India’s first Prime Minister, Shri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to establish an institution which render quality education and training in the English. The English and Foreign Languages University was established in the year 1958. In the year 1972 the name of English and Foreign Languages University got changed to Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) with its advancement in scope of teaching and education. Prof Sunaina Singh is the Vice Chancellor of the University.

Later in 2006 the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) was given with a status of Central University and then renamed as English and Foreign Languages University. The English and Foreign Languages University is only one University in entire South Asia with a coverage of studies in languages like English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, and Turkish. The English and Foreign Languages University has three campuses, one in Hyderabad, one in Shillong and another in Lucknow and one in Malappuram.

The English and Foreign Languages University offers graduate, post graduate, research programmes in the areas of language studies and apart from that it offers postgraduate diplomas, and distance and part time mode courses also. The English and Foreign Languages University has 7 schools and 26 Departments under these schools. The Schools of Studies are as follows.

The main facilities given by the University to its students are Placement Cell, Cell for the Disabled, Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH), SC/ST Cell, Remedial English programmes, Counselling Centre, Medical insurance and Health Centre.
