About Jammu and Kashmir Police
The act administration department, having primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within the 22 districts of the state of Jammu & Kashmir in India. The Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force, and other Paramilitary forces of India helps Jammu and Kashmir Police to keep the state safe from incursions from Pakistan. Police officer Known as Kotwal and 14 Thanedars for Srinagar City came into an existence as a formal Police force in the year 1873 AD. Law and Order were taking care and controlling with this nuclear force with the help of Chowkidars and “Hawkers”. They were paid with the help of the population out of their annual agriculture produce. It was in 1913 that the state ordered the administration of an Imperial Police officer on deputation and selected Mr Broadway as the primary Inspector General of Police in the year 1913 in June. Since then the Police in J&K has experienced several re-establishments. In the year 1889-90 the police strength in J and K was just 1040 as the year moved on the number of strength also increased and now it is approximately 83000.
Director General of Police is the head of Police in State of Jammu and Kashmir. Gulshan Ground, Jammu is the headquarters for the Police force. Sh. K. Rajendra Kumar, IPS is the Director General Police of J and K police force.
