Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya was established following the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to have Hindi as the national language and effect of resolutions passed by the First World Hindi Conference organized in Nagpur in the year 1975. Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya was established as a Central University by the act of Parliament and came into action in 1997. The Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya is located at Wardha in Maharashtra. Followed by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya is mainly concentrating on making Hindi as a language of science and medium of idea exchange.

The Visitor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya is the Honorable president of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Kapil Kapoor is the Chancellor and Girishwar Misra is the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya.

There are total of 8 schools of studies and 29 departments under these Schools in total. The main School of studies are as follows.

Apart from the above said Schools of studies the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya has got a Laboratory in Informatics for the Liberal Arts (LILA) which has got set up aiming at teaching, learning research in the field of IT. There are two centres separately set up by the University, one is Allahabad Center and other is Kolkatta Center. The Allahabad Center has got four departments such as Department of Hindi and Comparative Literature, Department of Women Studies, Centre for M.G.F.G.P.S., Department of Urdu Literature and the Kolkatta Centerhas got Department of Hindi and Comparative Literature and Center for Communication & Media Studies under it.
