Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Education to All
The right to education is one of the basic right of a child in our country. Education is not about just getting some knowledge from books, but the overall growth of the child mentally to contribute to the decision making for the country. It shouldn’t be hindered by any factors of social, age or gender inequalities. Every child has got the right to education and Government of India is serious about this objective.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a movement by Government of India with an aim of Education to all without any differences of age, status, gender or any other factors for that matter. This movement’s ultimate objective is to universalize the concept of basic education. Every children between the age group of 6 years to 14 years will come under the coverage of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan visualizing to make the education fundamental, compulsory and free for every child under this category.
This program was started in 2000-2001 period by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Government with the aid of various state governments to make sure that the SSA is getting implemented properly and systematically at each stage.
The main motto of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was to bring in the equalization of education rendering without the differences in gender, society and regions. Each schools and its managements has been given with this vision to support and make this program successful. To backup this program, the Ministry of Women and Child Empowerment of Government of India started enforcing the importance of pre -schooling through various Integrated Child Development Services centers or special centers in the areas with absence of ICDS centers.
The program has got implemented with an initial objective of setting up schools in areas where there is no such presence along with facilities of proper classrooms, toilets, drinking water and to meet the other needs of the children. Teaching faculties, being the vital component in making the schools successful has been made enough along with adequate learning and teaching materials and various grants kept open to support this. SSA has devised its other objectives such as cultivation of basic life skills, girl child education, special attention towards children with special needs, computer education etc.
SSA has identified the educationally backward areas named as “Educationally Backward Blocks (EBB)” identified basically in term of female literacy rate & Gender gap of literacy. SSAs have included the participation of common people and communities to make it a success with active contribution.
The specific targets of SSA are education to all children, minimum guarantee of quality elementary education, special focus towards girl’s education, basic needs and facilities for all schools, gender equalization, and easy mobilization. SSAs have come up with an idea of alternative education facilities for those children who have distance issues to go and attend their schooling and provide confidence to each kid of that state.
Regular appraisals, reviews has been made by different research organizations to enhance the quality of this program. Regular monitoring, observation and evaluation and reporting procedures has been implemented across the levels to ensure the fruitful association with different bodies and people related to. Proper recruitment plans and its execution has been done to ensure proper availability of staffs and teachers.
